[caption id="attachment_2332" align="alignnone" width="520" caption=""The Suburbs""][/caption] Let's hear it again for 2010. Out in August. Available to pre-order now. Arcade Fire's new album "the Suburbs" has quite a lovely cover design and adds to what will be one of the best years ever for new music.

[caption id="attachment_2316" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="america. proudly recognizing the importance of not being an asshole."][/caption] Okay. This is just not cool. All of these anti-immigrant, xenophobic acts of ignorance just have to stop. The Arizona law. Nebraska's "green card" incident. The countless raids and all the jailing. It is NOT what America is all about. We are not a "learn to speak English" country. Sorry. That's ridiculous. The country was made by all sorts of amazing, crazy people from all over the world. We are a "hello and welcome" country. So enjoy. Now go out and make some new friends.

Interesting to see the process behind Hecox's work, not what I expected.

[caption id="attachment_2289" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="Description"][/caption] Jonathan Harris (b. Aug 27, 1979) makes projects that reimagine how humans relate to technology and to each other. His We Feel Fine Book is awesome. His TED talk is great. His one photo a day is nice. Take some time to look through all his projects. [caption id="attachment_2290" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="Work"][/caption]

Good50×70 2010

[caption id="attachment_2257" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="The Social Communication Project"][/caption] Though you will be asked to design a social poster on a social brief for a nongovernmental organization only a few times in your career, it is nonetheless true that, year after year, charities are in dire need of raising public awareness on their daily activity. It's GOOD 50x70 2010. You know what to do. [caption id="attachment_2238" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky"][/caption] Making Ideas Happen is a remedy to that very sad fact: MOST IDEAS NEVER HAPPEN. Offering insight to overcome “reactionary workflow” and start pushing ideas forward, to let go of the myth of the lonely creative genius, and to push through the “project plateau” and finish, Scott Belsky has quite an effective method for making things happen. The simple equation: Creativity x Organization = Impact. Very nice design too.  Please visit: Behance The Behance Network The 99 Percent Action Method Outfitter [caption id="attachment_2241" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="The Action Method at a Glance"][/caption]

charity: water

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
[caption id="attachment_2224" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water."][/caption] Scott Harrison of Charity: Water spoke last Friday at the Big Omaha conference. I'd say it was the best of the weekend. An impassioned plea to end the water crisis. To take on that far too high a number of one billion people that lack access to clean water. His story is truly inspiring. Reimagining the idea charity, creating a design that doesn't suck, and allowing people to connect to the cause on the ground they decide to support. In this case a well for $5000 that serves 250 people with clean, safe water. It is a crisis. And we can solve it. In Scott's words: If not now, when? If not us, who?

[caption id="attachment_2207" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="Big Omaha 2010"][/caption] Big Omaha is Silicon Prairie News’ (SPN) premier event, held each May in Omaha, Nebraska. This year's speakers include Tony Hsieh of, Dennis Crowley of foursquare and Scott Harrison from Charity: Water. There's a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who are passionately making their mark on our community and Big Omaha is for them. This event brings together the region's best and brightest to motivate, challenge, excite and connect with one another, and in turn raise the bar on the level of work we're producing. Should be a good time. And props, of course, to the guys at Oxide Design for the nice, nice design. Site Inspire

Monday, May 10th, 2010
Site Inspire is a well-designed website that showcases other well-designed websites. I like this site, the design sensibilities of the sites that they showcase appeal to me. Its also nice that you can browse based on style and theme and other criteria.
